Students who sat Senior Four (S.4) in 2025 have been urged to avoid distractions and remain focused on their studies as they transition to the next level of their academic journey.
The call was made by Joseph Kawuki, the Buganda Kingdom Minister for Local Governments and Director of MUMSA High School Mityana, while presenting the school’s performance in the 2025 Uganda Certificate of Education examinations to parents.
Kawuki cautioned students against engaging in behaviours that could derail their academic progress, emphasising the importance of discipline, determination and hard work.
“This is not the time to relax or be diverted by temporary pleasures. Stay focused, complete your studies and build a strong foundation for your future. The choices you make today will determine the kind of life you live tomorrow,” he said.
He further advised parents against unilaterally deciding which subject combinations their children should pursue at Senior Five (S.5). Instead, he encouraged dialogue involving learners and teachers to ensure informed decisions aligned with students’ abilities and career aspirations.
“Do not impose subjects on your children because of prestige or personal preference. Sit down with them and their teachers, understand their strengths and ambitions, and guide them wisely. When we nurture their talents properly, we are building a stronger nation,” Kawuki added.
The event began with a thanksgiving prayer led by Rev. Fr. Richard Ssemmambo, Parish Priest of Naama Parish, who expressed gratitude for the academic success registered by the school.
In his sermon, he urged students to remain faithful and avoid actions that could lead to preventable mistakes, especially amid growing social pressures facing young people.
The school’s Director of Studies, Patrick Mawejje, encouraged parents to select schools based on proven academic performance and the ability to nurture learners holistically, rather than on attractive promises or financial considerations alone.
Parents commended the school administration for its dedication and thorough preparation of candidates, attributing the excellent results to teamwork and unity within the school community.
In the 2025 UCE examinations, MUMSA High School Mityana registered 248 candidates, all of whom passed in Division One.
All the students who were presented qualified to proceed to Senior Five, marking a 100 percent top-grade pass rate for the cohort.
